Artist using the left brain
While attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco Ian decided to take his love for 3D virtual worlds and make it a career. After graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts for Computer Animation he found work at a local game development studio. Ian has worked for over a decade professionally as a Designer, Instructor, and Artist. During this time he has worked with seven (7) different studios. This experience gained Ian an advanced working knowledge of building a game from first concept, to final bug testing. He also understands the pipeline of product design. From initial design sketches through a digital sculpt in ZBrush to a 3D printed object to a cast metal product. He continues to take classes to expand his knowledge and skillsets.
Ian also works as an Author at Pluralsight, teaches at The Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Is the Creative Director at Cleverlike Studios, and takes commissions as a freelance artist. Translating what he has learned while working as a professional commercial artist, Ian molds and crafts the next generation of artists for their professional life.
Because of his advanced knowledge using multiple software packages he enjoys exchanging tricks of the trade with his peers.
Ian is currently rockn' it in Denver, Colorado.
Specialties: Advanced understanding of modeling, digital painting, texturing (painting, UV layout) and lighting for interior and exterior of digital sets. Competent understanding of engineering tasks taking a digital sculpts to a finished product (3D printing, mold making, cast in metal, laser cut, or milled). Writing and editing tutorials both written and recorded for video. Also knowledgeable in the use and creation of VFX.
Proficient in using, though not limited to, Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, Unreal Engine, Mudbox, 3DS Max, 3Design, Fusion 360, 3D Printers (FFF and SLA)
